To celebrate the 67th edition of the “Eurovision Song Contest” (ESC), Food Explorers is getting together for a “Eurovision Cook-and-Dine” session!

This international song contest was founded after World War Two, and it is an institution that drew over 160 million viewers in 2022.  The “Euro-” prefix is a bit misleading – contestants can come from any member country of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) which includes numerous non-European nations such as Israel, Morocco, Azerbaijan and even Australia.

Typically, the winner of the preceding year would host the contest.  Ukraine won ESC 2022, but as fighting and shelling still continues to this day, contest organizers moved to hold this year’s contest in Liverpool, UK instead due to security reasons.

So, get your tastebuds ready for a journey across the smörgåsbord of cuisines from ESC-participating countries as we prepare a few iconic dishes for dinner.

When:  Saturday, May 13th, starting at 18.00 till about 22.30 thereabouts

Where:  Danielle and Matt’s home in Neustadt an der Weinstraße (address will be provided to those attending)

What:  We will be making 4-5 dishes from the countries with the highest odds of winning ESC 2023 (according to bookmakers’ predictions).  Leading the pack at the moment are entries from Sweden, Finland, Ukraine, Norway and Spain.  Note that the odds can still change, so we will finalize the menu two weeks before the show.

There is space for 10 participants.  Contact me from April 13th onwards to register, and let me know if you have any special dietary requests so that we may adjust the menu accordingly.  The list of participants will be finalised April 29th.

Come join us and celebrate culinary diversity!
