Hummus is a very popular Middle Eastern dip and spread, typically made by blending chickpeas, garlic, tahini, lemon juice and olive oil in a food processor.
Traditional hummus is made of chickpeas as a primary ingredient – the word “hummus” means chickpeas in Arabic.
Low in calories and high in protein, it can help fight hunger cravings and balance blood sugar levels.

- 240g cooked chickpeas (drained)
- 2 pips garlic, peeled
- 4 tbsp tahini paste
- Lemon juice from ½ lemon
- ½ tsp cumin
- Olive oil
- Olive oil to drizzle
- Olives for decoration (optional)
- Tip chickpeas into a food processor.
- Add garlic, tahini, a good squeeze of lemon juice, cumin and one tablespoon oil.
- Season with a pinch of salt, pop the lid on and blitz.
- Use a spatula to scrape the hummus down the sides of the bowl, then blitz again until smooth.
- Test for taste and add more lemon juice or a splash of water to loosen, if needed.
- Transfer to a serving bowl and refrigerate for an hour befoe serving.
- Drizzle with olive oil before serving and decorate with olives, if using.
