Juliah Rais-Morres

Juliah is born and raised in the state of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. After high school, she went to Louisiana State University and graduated with a degree in Landscape Architecture.  She also met her husband at university, but romance did not blossom until after she returned to Malaysia.  After more than a year of long-distance courtship, Juliah moved to Heidelberg in 1989, got married and started working as a freelance landscape architect.

Juliah is passionate about cooking, baking and pampering her guests with delicious food.  In 1998, she started Serai, a catering business specializing in Malaysian and Asian cuisines for clientele in the Rhine-Neckar region.  She was also the owner of the Malaysian restaurant “Serai” in Heidelberg from 2011 till early 2016.  Juliah has been conducting cooking classes at various locations since 2000 – her diverse offerings include children’s cooking sessions (birthday parties) and corporate team building events.  On every third Saturday of the month, you can find Juliah at Heidelberg’s Weststadt-Samstagmarkt serving popular Malaysian street food.

In March 2016, Juliah founded “Cooking for HOPE”, a project to aid refugees, specifically teenagers who arrive in Germany on their own, without their parents or families.  Read more about how this project started here.  In the meantime, Caritas has also asked Juliah to organize cooking sessions with the refugees at their facility in Kirchheim.
