Servus!

Come join us for a relaxing evening of culinary treats from Austria’s many “GenussRegionen“.

Jasmine Letschnig, the owner of Genuss x Zeit, looks forward to introducing us to an Austrian “Brettljause“:  Cold cuts of smoked and dried meats, sausages, cheeses, home-made spreads, and very important – something pickled.  All these delicious things are traditionally served on wooden boards (“Brettl”), hence the word.

In Austria, there is no specific time of the day to enjoy a Brettljause.  It can be your elevensies, your lunch, you can have it around teatime or – very often – as dinner.

When:  Saturday, 24th November, 2018 from 1900 hours onwards

Where:  Genuss x Zeit, Carl-Theodor Straße 29, 68723 Schwetzingen

What:  You will get to sample the entire range of Jasmine’s specialty meats and cheeses.  There are ham, Speck, bacon and lard from the Mangaliza and Turopolje pigs – two old breeds with marbled, very aromatic meat, which nearly melts in your mouth.  Also on the menu are smoked and dried sausages from different parts of Austria.  Most of the aromatic cheeses on the cheese board will be organic and made from raw milk.

Brettljause is eaten with bread.  At Genuss x Zeit, Jasmine serves long-fermented sourdough bread with caraway, fennel and coriander seeds.  These exotic flavors pair beautifully with Jasmine’s savory meats and cheeses.

To balance out the heartiness, you will be able to choose from a variety of pickled vegetables:  cucumbers, bell peppers, zucchini, shallots, black nuts…

We will end our evening on a sweet note with two desserts – the first is Austria’s infamous “Sacher Torte“.  The second one has a more personal touch – “Kärntner Reindling” – a yeast-dough pastry filled with sugar, cinnamon and raisins from Jasmine’s hometown.

Prices

“Servus Austria” (food only, water included) Ticket price, per person
Member’s price € 28
Non-member’s price € 30

Beverages can be ordered directly from Jasmine.  In addition to coffee, tea, and non-alcoholic beverages, there will also be typical Austrian wine varieties sold by the glass (0.1L) for €3 each.

Austria has been producing wine for centuries with first findings of wine dating back to the Celts and Romans (700 BC).  The Grüner Veltliner, a dry white, accounts for more than a third of wines produced in the country.  Other wines available during this evening are Gelber Muskateller, Blauer Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch, to name a few.  They are all perfect companions to the rustic Brettljause.

As there are only 15 spots available, bookings will be on first-come-first-served basis.

Members can pay online to secure their seats.  Non-members please contact me.

Best wishes,
