G’day Mate!

We start our New Year with brunch Aussie style!  What is brunch, you ask?  It’s a meal eaten late in the morning as a combination of a late breakfast and an early lunch, which means there are servings of sweet and salty food.  Something for everyone!

No place does brunch better than how they do it Down Under.  Brunch is the meal of choice for many Australians as it tends to be lighter, and it doesn’t have the association with alcohol that’s expected with evening meals.  It is a cheaper alternative for business meetings, and because it takes place earlier in the day, people are less likely to get held back by office emergencies.  The F&B scene in Australia is increasingly geared for all-day dining rather than set meal times, which means brunch is a thriving culture.  This leads us to a current debate about the avocado being blamed for young people not being able to afford property, but that’s another story!

When:  Wednesday, January 18th, starting 9.30am till about 1.00pm thereabouts

Where:  Anita’s home in Heidelberg (address will be provided to those attending)

What:  Anita will show us how to do brunch like an Aussie.  We start with an entrée – quinoa and chia bircher muesli.  For mains, there will be oh-so-Aussie smashed avocado on toast, poached eggs, bacon (you can skip this if you don’t eat pork), spicy corn fritters, haloumi, mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes.  To finish, we can look forward to some butter-almond-orange biscuits with coffee or tea. With so many items to prepare and with limited stove top space, come prepared to eat as we work. There is space for 10 participants.  Online registration is now open.

Cheers!
