To celebrate the 64th edition of the “Eurovision Song Contest” (ESC), Food Explorers and Heidelberg International Women’s Club members are getting together for a journey across the smörgåsbord of cuisines from ESC-participating countries!

This international song contest was founded after World War Two, and it is an institution that drew over 186 million viewers in 2018.  The “Euro-” prefix is a bit misleading – contestants can come from any member country of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) which includes numerous non-European nations such as Israel, Morocco, Azerbaijan and even Australia.

This year, the ESC will take place in Israel, home to last year’s winning song “Toy“.

When:  Saturday, May 18th, starting at 18:00 hours till about 23:00 hours thereabouts

Where:  Faeimm’s home in Nußloch (address will be provided to those attending one week before the event begins)

What:  Depending on the number of attendees, we will be making dishes from the countries with the highest odds of winning ESC 2019 (according to bookmakers’ predictions).  As the odds can still change, we will finalize the menu two weeks before the show.  I will get in touch with all participants in due course to brainstorm on which dishes to prepare.

In the meantime, enjoy this Deutsche Welle article which provides a preliminary overview of which contestants are already making waves .

Online registration is now open till May 4th.  There will be space for up to 15 participants.  Come join us and celebrate culinary diversity!

The list of participants will be finalised two weeks before event date.
