Welcome to possibly the most popular cafeteria in Heidelberg – the Zeughaus-Mensa im Marstallhof. It won the nationwide „Mensa of the Year” award in 2010 and 2011, proudly claiming the title „Best Mensa in Germany“ for two years in a row. The historical building it is housed in is located a stone’s throw away from the Neckar promenade. In summer, diners can sit outdoors in a “Biergarten”.
Everyone is welcome!
Did you know guests are also welcome to dine here? Cash payment is accepted – without university ID cards, guests pay 1.45€ /100g for their selection from the buffet. Students and university employees pay only 0.80€ /100g.
There is a wide range cold and warm dishes to choose from the pay-for-what-you-take buffet – soups, salads, vegetables, meats, fish, sweet treats, cakes and desserts. Everything is freshly made daily, using locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. One can really taste the quality in the food!
Once a month, students get to splurge in Sunday brunch featuring seasonal specialties and breakfast classics the likes of muesli, cereals, bread rolls, croissants, waffles and crêpes.
If you’re in the vicinity, pop in for a meal or a snack from Mondays to Saturdays, between 11:00 and 23:30 hours (buffet opens till 22:00).
You will find the food served here is real value-for-money compared to those served at the many crowded and over-priced cafés in Heidelberg’s Altstadt.
