Zdravo!
To understand Croatian food you need to understand the history of the region. The many different aspects of its cuisine are influenced predominantly by the former Austro-Hungarian empire, the former Ottoman Empire, and Italy. This is why there are many Croatian dishes which are familiar to us, but with a slight twist in combination of ingredients.
When: Tuesday, March 26th, starting at 9.30am till about 1.00pm thereabouts
Where: Laura’s home in Heidelberg (address will be provided to those attending)
What: Our history lesson today focuses on popular dishes from north of Croatia, in which there is a visible influence from German and Austrian cuisines. We begin with “Bučnica” (filo pie with fresh cheese and pumpkin). Our main course is the unique “Kroketi od kajgane sa umakom od gljiva” (scrambled eggs croquettes with mushroom sauce). For dessert, we will be making “Palačinke sa orasima i vinskom pjenom” (crepes with walnuts and frothy white wine sauce), a dish served in almost every restaurant in Croatia.
There is space for 8 participants. Online registration opens end February.
