Kon’nichiwa!
Izakaya is a type of casual Japanese drinking establishment, intended for after-work drinking. Literally “the roof with alcohol”, izakaya places also serve food to accompany the drinks. Unlike other Japanese styles of eating, food items come in small portions and are usually shared by everyone at the table (similar to Spanish tapas), so you don’t get full while you are drinking.
The main idea of izakaya dining is to take time and enjoy good food and good drinks with good friends. In this session, we will be experimenting with several popular dishes typically served in an izakaya.
When: Tuesday, May 28th, starting at 9.30am till about 1.00pm thereabouts
Where: Janine’s home in Schwetzingen (address will be provided to those attending one week before the event begins)
What: Our session begins with Yakitori, literally “grilled chicken”, which is Japanese-style skewered chicken. We will also be making a vegetarian version using mushrooms. In an izakaya, a hearty bowl of ramen is eaten to soak up the alcohol drunk. Our version will be a Shoyu Ramen with duck. Last but not least, though not a customary dessert at an izakaya, we end our meal with a Japanese-style “no bake” cheesecake.
There is space for 10 participants. Registration opens end April. The list of participants will be finalised two weeks before event date.
