The food of South India is quite different from north Indian staples like tandoori, naan bread, butter chicken and rich vegetable curries. Think steamed, spiced and coconut-flavored. Rice is a staple food in South India, and it is combined with lentils to make delicacies like “dosa“, “idli“, “vada” and “uttapam“.
When: Thursday, July 19th, starting at 9.30am till about 1.00pm thereabouts
Where: Kishori’s home in Nußloch (address will be provided to those attending)
What: Kishori shows us how to make “masala dosa“, a thin, crispy crepe made from a lightly-fermented batter of ground rice and lentils, and stuffed with a spicy mash of potato and onion. We will also make its traditional accompaniments of coconut chutney and “Sambar“. Our meal concludes on a sweet note with some “Kheer“, a flavorful rice pudding made with spices.
