Olá a todos!

Welcome to Bahia, the tropical sunshine state in the northeast of Brazil on the Atlantic coast!

Bahia’s strong African influence dates back to when slaves from Africa were brought here to work in the sugar cane plantations.  Both cuisines share many common ingredients, such as óleo de dendê (palm oil), coconut milk, ginger, bell peppers and spices.

When: Thursday, September 15th, starting at 9.30am till about 1.00pm thereabouts

Where: Birgit’s home in Neustadt (address will be provided to those attending)

What:  We will prepare a mango salad as an appetizer to whet our appetites.  Our main course is “Moqueca Baiana”, a seafood stew with dendê oil, served with rice and pirão.  For dessert, we’ll learn to make Brazil’s most famous dessert  “Brigadeiro de colher”, the chocolate, fudge-like treat popular at Brazilian birthday parties.  To balance the decadence of the “Brigadeiro”, there will be either a papaya cream or a fruit salad.

There is still 1 spot available in this session.  If you have not attended a “Cook-and-Lunch” session before, drop me a line if you’re interested in a trial session.

Obrigada!
Faeimm Tang

P/S:  Just in case you are allergic to cat fur (like me), come prepared because Birgit has two kittens at home!
