Howdy folks!

Once the World Cup matches begin, it would also mean that grill season in Germany is in full swing!

Craving some meat-fall-off-the-bone BBQ ribs but no time to make them yourself?  Join us as we head out for some Texas barbecue – juicy smoked meats and ribs full of flavour, washed down with ice-cold beer…

When:  Saturday, June 30th, starting from 19.00 hours

There will be a big-screen TV in the restaurant so that you can follow the football game if your favorite team is playing on this day!

Where:  Die Fette Wutz, N6 3, 68161 Mannheim

What:  Die Fette Wutz uses quality cuts of meats, and they make their own marinades, rubs, sauces, sides, salads and desserts, so diners can be assured of authentic flavours.  Homemade lemonades, iced teas and specialty and craft beers round up the offerings.

The Menu

Nikos Wolters, the owner of Die Fette Wutz, has compiled this special menu for Food Explorers and guests, so that we get a roundup of their signature offerings:

1.  Angus Brisket (smoked for 12-14 hours)

2.  Pulled Pork (smoked for 12-14 hours)

3.  Wutz Ribs (smoked 5-7 hours)

4.  Wutz Sausage (smoked for 45 minutes)

5.  Sides – coleslaw, pickles, homemade potato chips, bread

6.  Free-flow Southern-style iced tea

Sounds good?  Well, that’s not all…

The Tour

With barbecue, “low and slow” is the golden rule of the cooking process — a low cooking temperature and a slow cooking speed.  “Low and slow” is important because cuts such as briskets and meat chunks are large and need to be cooked at lower temperatures (90 to 120°C) so that the outside portion does not get overcooked while waiting for the proper internal temperature of the middle of the cut to be reached.

Nikos and his team will give us a tour of the kitchens so that we can see how the meats are prepared and cooked.  We will also get to see the “Smoker” (by Southern Pride) that’s big enough to handle 500 pounds (~226kg) of meat all at one go!
